If you’re serious about holding your cryptocurrency in any reasonable amount and for any length of time a Hardware Wallet is a must-have item. The products from French Company Ledger are excellent and we highly recommend the Nano S wallet for its ease of use and compactness. If you’re a regular reader of crypto forums and news sites you will already recognise the Nano S wallet.
Out of the Box
In the box are the following:
- Ledger Wallet
- Instruction Card
- Recovery Card IMPORTANT NOTE – Ensure this is blank! Please see our news article here
- USB cable
- Lanyard & keychain
We are fans of the Nano S and find it a great product and much improved over the previous Nano model. When you first set up your Nano S it will prompt for a PIN, this will be used to access the wallet so please make a note of it somewhere secure. Without it, you will not be able to access the wallet. From there you will then be provided with a 24-word seed that is used to generate your private keys. This should be written and stored using a very secure password application or offline, this seed allows control over your currency.
Once you have completed the initial setup of the device you need to download the Chrome browser plug-in to allow you to interface fully with the device and make transactions. The plug-in for chrome will interface with the pre-installed wallets on the Nano S, more 3rd party wallet apps can be installed to hold other coins, the instruction manual covers these options. At present the wallet supports a number of coins, please visit the Ledger site as these update regularly – Ledger
In addition, because the wallet will interface with MyEtherWallet it is capable of holding many Ethereum ERC20 based tokens all in one place without having to access them online from various sites exposing your private keys.
For the price (approx $95) it is absolute no-brainer, why risk losing thousands of dollars storing your cryptocurrency on a hot wallet when this great wallet costs so little?
